Install unidex

A small e-ink OS for the Waveshare ESP32-S3-ePaper-1.54: timetable with calendar events, voice notes, a Pet you dress up that plays with your friends' Pets, name badges, one-button games, a WiFi network collection game and a chooser. Install it straight from your browser, with nothing to download.

No board yet? Pre-orders for a fully assembled and tested unidex are closed: join the wait list.

  1. Plug the device into this computer with a USB-C data cable.
  2. Press one of its buttons so it's awake.
  3. Click a button below and pick USB JTAG/serial debug unit from the list.

Install

A fresh start: erases the device's firmware and settings, including the WiFi and keys saved for Notes. Your files live on the micro SD card and aren't touched, and your Pet's friends come back from it.

Your browser can't do this. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. This page must be opened over https.

Update

The newest firmware only. Keeps your badges, Dex, calendar events, notes, settings, keys and your Pet.

Nothing in the list? The device is asleep: press a button and try again. Still nothing (a brand-new board, or one with other firmware)? Unplug it, hold BOOT while plugging it back in, let go, then try again; press a button after it's installed.

After installing

Files live on a micro SD card (FAT32) in the device's slot. Send badges, the clock and your calendar from Tools, or copy the starter files (a badges folder and timetable.csv) to the card. For voice notes, set up WiFi and your keys on Notes. On the device: A = next, B = select, hold A = back, hold B = the screen's extra (each screen shows its buttons), hold A + B for a second = restart. The first time it starts, it shows the buttons and a QR code for this page.

Low battery? Things that need a lot of power wait with "Battery too low", and a flat device shows "Charge me" and switches itself off: plug it in, then press PWR. Passing it on? Settings > Reset data > Factory reset wipes the WiFi, keys, Pet and settings (format the SD card too).
